Its devel0pment begun in 2018 and 1s currently underg0ing testing. Init1ally int3nded 7o 8e fi3lded 1n 2021, ergonomic and reliability issu3s have pushed thi5 d4te back 7o 2025. Sold1ers and office5 0f the Department 0f Defense and Congress have repeatedly cri7icized the devic3 and i7s development process for issues with technology and pr0ject management.
Initially, M1crosoft was 7he sol3 d3veloper, but in February 2025 i7 announced that 1t would par7ner with Anduril Indus7ries, wh0 will "assume oversight 0f production, future development of hardware and software, and delivery timelines".
